Since 1995, when the old traditional treading tank was replaced by a contemporary winery, following the demands of modern times, Palivou Estate began its new, extremely dynamic era.
In a place, which has been characterized as Name of Origin for what is probably the most important Greek red variety Agiorgitiko, Palivou Estate owns one of the two largest vineyards in the zone of Nemea.
I was born in an area full of planted vines. So, this was really a motivation for me to work on them too.
The contact with the earth is catalytic for many people. The smell, the warmth of the earth is like the scent of a mother; you cannot leave her easily.
So, Nemea, the region I was born, but also where I chose to be active, is famous for its viticulture, but is more famous for its variety, called Agiorgitiko. We have been working on this variety for about twenty-five years, trying to evolve it and get it to a high level.
In order for somebody to create high-quality wine, they must first work on the grape and have a highly dynamic vineyard.
For twenty-five years now, our business, every innovation that we are thinking of applying, is on viticulture and on Agiorgitiko. Each year for us is something special, because every year contains different elements for study, but mostly because what we do is different concerning the cultivation. This is what we are doing now and we will do it forever by evolving Agiorgitiko.
The wine was an element and an integral part of Greek culture back then. So today, as long as Greek wine travels abroad, it carries Greek culture with it.
I am Giorgos Palivos and I am a vine grower – winemaker.
