Monemvasia Winery was founded on September 20th, 1997 in Monemvasia of Lakonia by G. Tsibidis. This initiative was part of a wider business plan with a clear objective: the revival of the Malvasia wine in its birth place.
The history of this place, or to put it this way the emotional connection which I have developed with the place where I was born and grew up, Monemvasia, is the reason why I decided to start making Wine.
I had the existential need of leaving my imprint in the history of my place or to be part of it. The story of my place is identified with the story of Malvasia wine which originates from Monemvasia. Since it was already being produced all over the world in countries such as Italy, Spain, Mathera, California, but not at the place of its origin: Monemvasia Greece, I decided to do something to revive the authentic product.
There is a new objective definition of quality on each level of production of the wine, which approaches the term from an objective point of view.
For example we can give an objective definition of the quality of wine, by saying that it has an excellent aroma, or that it has a distinctive aftertaste.
Greece has many values to offer in the field of wine production. This fact can be reflected on the cultural heritage of Greece, which included the faith in Dionysus, the ancient god of Wine.
Now it’s up to us, to demonstrate these values, by working persistently, systematically, using our know-how in order, to create a final product which is up to the highest standards of quality.
This is a challenge we have to win
My name is Giorgos Tsibidis, and together with Eleni Tsibidis we have established the Winery of Monemvasia.
