The inauguration of the Library of the 3rd Primary School of Agios Nikolaos, implemented by the G. & A. Mamidakis Foundation, was held at a festive event, on Friday, October 18, 2019.

A dream come true

In front of a large crowd, as well as representatives of the local authorities and business circles of Agios Nikolaos, the leadership of the G. & A. Mamidakis Foundation handed over the new Public Library of the 3rd Primary School of Agios Nikolaos, to the children and the school management. Faithful to its mission of supporting the country’s human capital and empowering society through educational actions and outreach initiatives, the Foundation has responded positively to the demand for the creation of a Library in an existing space. Upon completion of the project, a fully equipped with all the necessary items (computers, projectors, seats, etc.), an independent study space, digital applications and literacy activities were delivered to the public with the aim of creativity and intellectual alertness of the students.

With a history of about 30 years, the G. & A. Mamidakis Foundation has been taking action in the context of Social Solidarity, undertaking initiatives involving the whole of society, the local community and individual vulnerable groups. Focusing primarily on the society of Agios Nikolaos and Crete, the Foundation aims to support the human capital of its founders’ birthplace, to empower society and to enhance the cultural life of the place.

Within this framework, the G. & A. Mamidakis Foundation supported EcoWeek Crete 2016, an event aimed at improving the quality of Agios Nikolaos public spaces and providing better hospitality and service to residents and their needs, while in 2017 and in 2018 supported the Agios Nikolaos Children’s Festival. The Foundation’s work is also plentiful in educational programs, since 2016 it has been a supporter in a variety of activities in Agios Nikolaos.

The “Agents of the Planet” program (2016, 2017), which focused on informing and sensitizing primary school children on environmental issues, the educational workshops on Greek Mythology developed in 2016 and 2017, the two educational programs for student exposure to Modern Art (2018, 2019), as well as the 8th Student Digital Film Festival 2018 are just some of the actions that he has been contributing to in the recent years.

In 2016 the Foundation launched a partnership with the 100Mentors platform and in 2018 commissioned Tipping Point to develop a program to inform students on Tourism and related professions that took place within the 2018-2019 school year.
