Petros Markantonatos, Gentilini winery leaders stamp

The winery and vineyards have now passed to the next generation. Nicholas’ daughter Marianna and her husband Petros Markantonatos took over the estate in 2002 with an eye on the future which, however, respects the experience of the past.


I had my first experience with Gentilini when I was 21 years old; it was just before I go to Australia for studies. As I was sitting at the table, I was offered a bottle of Gentilini. I tasted it and I realized that it was an excellent wine made by an eccentric wine producer from Kefallinia.

Since the first vinification of Gentilini in 1984, our company was aiming at foreign markets. Our wine brands were included in wine lists such as Justerini & Brooks and Berry Bros. & Rudd in England, so there was already an export activity. We belong to the second generation of owners and we continue the exporting activity of Gentilini to date. We have given emphasis on local variety of wines, which are produced in Kefallinia, such as Robola and Eclipse, and which are the most appropriate products for expanding our export activity in new markets.

For us, quality is defined by the excellent work of a team which works constantly and with discipline to create the final product. Likewise, quality entails very good grapevines, very good raw materials, and above all professionalism, for the product to be produced by the standards of our business

Wine goes hand in hand with the heavy industry of Greece, which consists of the tourism industry. Besides, wine brings people together; it offers them a unique experience of hospitality. Due to these values, it is related to tourism. In addition, I believe that our export activity is one more instrument of promotion of our country abroad.

We have many things coming up. First of all, we are preparing a new vineyard, which will be full of Mavrodaphne plants. Of course we are making new kinds of wine, and we are going to present the evolution of Robola which is produced at Kefallinia

We have made a big investment on Greek tourism. We are going to offer a great experience to people, by giving them the opportunity to visit our winery
