Presentation of the Social Media Platform PLUGGY
An open event took place on Wednesday, November 20, 2019, at the Hub of Innovation & Entrepreneurship of Technopolis City of Athens, INNOVATHENS. Three distinguished Greek organizations, ICCS, PIOP and Clio Muse (Leader of Lovegreece.com) in collaboration with 6 European organizations and companies, presented to the general public the technologies and applications of the 1st online Social Networking Platform for Europe’s Cultural Heritage, PLUGY
Major sights, famous monuments, as well as little unknown local cultures and traditions across Europe, are starring in stories created by the users of the platform, ordinary citizens and professionals working in the field of culture. In a simple, interactive and fun way, they can create original cultural heritage stories in a few minutes, and share experiences and knowledge of local culture with other users, using a range of state-of-the-art technology tools such as Augmented Reality applications. In this way, every single viewer and observer can become a creator of high-value cultural content and an influential factor in the field of culture.
An important part of the event was the Fair, where the creators of the platform themselves toured the visitors in the world of PLUGGY, giving them the opportunity to use it and create their own personalized stories in real time with audio and video even in 3D! They even had the opportunity to tour and get acquainted with three of the nine museums of the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP) participating in the project: the Open-Air Water Power Museum at Dimitsana, the Environmental Museum of Stymphalia and the Silversmithing Museum at Ioannina.
The PLUGGY project received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program and it was coordinated by Greece and specifically by Dr. Angelos Amditis, Research Director at the Institute of Communication & Computer Systems (ICCS) and Head of the I-SENSE research team of ICCS.
