Stellios Boutaris, member of the fifth generation of winemakers, leads Kir-Yianni into the next phase of its history, by dynamically exploiting the cornerstones of the Kir-Yianni philosophy: desire for innovation, respect for tradition and true knowledge of the wine, from the grape to the end consumer.
I was born in a family of wine producers, my family is making wine since 1879, I’m the 5th generation, and I always knew I will work on wine production.
Our motto, at Ktima Kir-Yianni, is that innovation builds tradition. Therefore, in the vineyards that we have in Naoussa and Amyndeon, we try to do the best, using modern techniques but of course respecting the tradition in order to make unique wines, wines with particularity, wines that have to give something to the wine world today.
Can a 3€ wine be of high quality? Or can a 1,000€ wine be non-qualitative? It’s a big conversation what is quality in wine, because wine is a very subjective product. Still, we believe that a good wine is made at the winery, but a great wine is made in the vineyard. The raw material, the grape is the one that determines the quality of the wine.
Its position at the consumer’s table gives it something of importance. Why; Because you have added value, because the origin is shown every time and it’s the image of Greece.
The magic in our work is that you never stop. We are expanding our winery in Amyndeon, expanding our vineyards in Amyndeon and investing in the part of the visiting, because we consider wine tourism to be a very important part of our work.
We believe that Greek wine exports start in Greece, we have 30 million tourists, growing every year, more quality tourists are coming, looking for quality Greek products and I think that wine is one of the products that shows the good side of Greece.
My name is Stellios Boutaris, I am a winemaker, managing director of Ktima Kir-Yianni in Naoussa and Amyndeon.
