Summer workshops for teenagers at the Onassis Cultural Center
New Artists at the Botanical Garden
27 June – 1 July 2016 | 10:00-14:00
The purpose of the workshop is for teens to work in nature and with nature, through Land art, a kind of art that recalls the ephemeral in life. Land art and contemporary environmental art have their origins in the 1960s, when artists of a new movement ceased to represent nature in their work and began to intervene in the environment. These artists were investigating the scope of the sculpture compared to natural ecosystems.
Teenagers will see examples of artists who have worked in this art and will discuss how they perceive the space, the possibilities and how they can creatively affect it
Then the teenagers will make their own interventions, through a game in nature, and they will create their own sculptures using materials such as wood, rope, stones, gravel, sand, fabrics etc. Teenagers will be divided into groups of 3 or 4 and they will explore the landscape around them and the elements that constitute it. Through exercises-games that stimulate their imagination and develop their manual skills, they will build their own collaborative sculptures in the landscape, which actually is the canvas of their creations.
