On Saturday, 20 June 2015, from 11 am to 1 pm, State of Concept –the first non profit gallery in Athens– will open its gates to children aged 5-12 years, inviting them to participate in a workshop developed by Playroom on the occasion of Margarita Bofiliou’s solo show titled «Everything’s Wrong, Xerxes».

By focusing on specific works, Playroom will present three creative activities designed especially for young people. These activities will investigate the idea of communication which seems to lie beneath the artworks. Automatic writing, the intensely populated imagery, the simple forms and narratives that emerge from the works, all create the curiosity to further explore the silent inner voice that comes out of art and occupies the space.

Playroom promotes its core belief that contemporary art should be open to all ages and encourages families and children to enter the gallery space not just as viewers, but with the aim of developing their critical understanding and their aesthetic references, and create their own artworks through play. The young creators will leave the gallery with a sculpture, a sound piece and an abstract collage.

In accordance to State of Concept’s philosophy, the workshop is offered free of charge, but it is required to RSVP at:  playroomplayroom@gmail.com

The gallery’s founder, Iliana Fokianaki, explains how such a non profit initiative works here.
